About Cecelie Owens

Cecelie Owens, a native of Buffalo, NY , is the founder and president of the G.I.R.L.S. Sports Foundation, Inc. (GSF). She founded the organization with a vision and a dream to teach girls growing up in her community the values that were so generously given to her. The name of the organization itself not only represents the population we serve, underserved inner city girls, but also the values we hope to instill in them; Goals, Integrity, Respect, Leadership, Sports (G.I.R.L.S.). Our overall mission is to reach underserved girls ages 4-18 years old by promoting the importance of academic achievement, respect, leadership, self confidence, healthy lifestyles, team work, and good sportsmanship through sports participation and mentoring.

Ms. Owens possesses a Bachelor of Science in education, Masters in education, Masters in Educational Leadership and school district administration certification. She is the first African American female inducted into the Buffalo State College Athletic Hall of Fame – 1999. Cecelie has also served as the Director of the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP) hosted at Buffalo State College for 10 years. She has obtained many awards and accolades for her extreme dedication and undying commitment at being an educator and an accomplished woman. Her experience, education, and devotion led her to assemble a diverse board of directors and qualified staff members that share her same vision. These board and staff members dedicate their time to GSF and its members by executing solid plans and following bylaw procedures and organizational processes that benefit our short and long term goals.
